Startup Island secures $400 million in funding

The Island Cybersecurity startup, based in Dallas, raised $400 million in a Series F funding round led by investment firm Evolution Equity Partners. The new funding brings the company’s valuation to $6.4 billion, more than twice its 2024 valuation. Existing investors and other venture capital firms also joined the round to support the company’s continued growth.

Cyberstarts—an investor that also backed Vega Security’s $120 million funding round—joined Insight Partners, Prysm Capital, Alta Park Capital, Georgian, G Squared, and Squarepoint in the funding round. Former CrowdStrike chief technology officer Dmitri Alperovitch made another personal investment in the company. The funding shows continued support from investors for Island’s business and its plans for future growth.

Chief executive explains changes in cybersecurity

The Island Cybersecurity platform first became known for its enterprise browser, which helps businesses monitor user activity while employees work remotely across hybrid networks. Hackers often target web browsers to steal sensitive company data, leading major companies such as Pfizer, Chipotle, and American Airlines to use Island’s security tools. Eight of the world’s 10 largest banks also use the platform.

Island chief executive Mike Fey said businesses now face new types of online security risks as older security controls become less effective. He explained that company software is becoming more complex and harder to manage across modern business networks. Fey said that many older security controls are breaking down, making this an important period for the cybersecurity industry.

Island plans to expand its global workforce

As part of its next phase, Island Cybersecurity plans to use the new funding for research and development while expanding its operations in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The company has reached about $200 million in revenue, with its annual recurring revenue doubling each fiscal year since its launch in 2022. Island has also expanded its products into data protection, application security, and secure access service edge (SASE) technology.

As the company expands, executives plan to increase its workforce from 1,000 employees to 1,500 by mid-2027. The company is continuing to grow as businesses face more online security threats. According to Reuters, Island’s executives say they remain focused on improving its products and expanding its business in the cybersecurity market.
