Coca-Cola Pauses Fairlife Production Amid Cyber Breach

The Coca-Cola Company temporarily suspended all U.S. production of its Fairlife dairy subsidiary Thursday after a Coca-Cola cyberattack compromised parts of its manufacturing and operational systems.

The company identified unauthorized third-party access to a portion of its network, forcing an immediate halt to manufacturing to secure the environment. While investigators continue to assess the scope of the breach, Coca-Cola confirmed that Fairlife’s production facilities in Canada remain fully operational and untouched by the incident.

“The company’s investigation and assessment of the impact of the incident is ongoing, with the assistance of outside advisors and cybersecurity experts,” Coca-Cola stated in a press release. The beverage giant also confirmed that it has notified law enforcement authorities regarding the intrusion.

Safety Assured as Investigation Continues

Despite the disruption to manufacturing infrastructure caused by the Coca-Cola cyberattack, Coca-Cola officials emphasized that the cyberattack has not affected the quality or safety of Fairlife products currently in the supply chain. The company has activated its standard incident response and business continuity protocols to prioritize the restoration of impacted systems.

“The full scope, nature and impacts of the Coca-Cola cyberattack are not yet known,” the company noted in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Consequently, leadership has not yet determined whether the temporary shutdown will have a material financial impact on the company’s broader operations.

No Ransomware Group Claims Responsibility

As of Thursday evening, no ransomware gang had publicly claimed responsibility for the Coca-Cola cyberattack, and Coca-Cola has not disclosed whether any sensitive data was exfiltrated during the intrusion. The company declined to provide a specific timeline for resuming U.S. production, stating only that it is working diligently to bring its systems back online safely.

Fairlife, which Coca-Cola acquired in 2020, has grown into a major brand in the dairy industry, generating more than 1 billion dollars in annual retail sales by 2022. The brand produces a variety of ultra-filtered milk, protein shakes, and nutrition drinks that remain popular with U.S. consumers.
