The agent was powered by Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.6 model, widely regarded as one of the industry’s most advanced coding systems.
“This matters because the easy counterargument is that we should have used a better model,” Crane wrote. “We were running the best model the industry sells with explicit safety rules configured.”
Crane said the AI located an API token in a file unrelated to the task and used it to issue deletion commands to cloud provider Railway. The production database and “all volume-level backups” were removed in less than 10 seconds.
Outage Disrupts Rental Businesses and Customer Operations
