Cyberattacks Target Hundreds of UAE Entities
The UAE Cybersecurity Systems Council has confirmed that national cybersecurity systems have effectively responded to a series of cyberattacks aimed at 634 government and private entities. These attacks were intended to compromise sensitive data from key sectors across the country. Authorities managed to thwart these threats by employing advanced global cybersecurity practices, ensuring that critical infrastructure and digital assets remained secure.
According to Dr. Mohamed AlKuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, a cyber threat actor known as “rose87168” has taken responsibility for a breach in Oracle Cloud’s Single Sign-On (SSO) and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). This breach reportedly led to the exposure of around six million customer records worldwide, including confidential user passwords and other sensitive data.
Extent of the Breach and UAE Cybersecurity Systems Response
Reports suggest that approximately 140,000 entities worldwide may have been affected by this breach, with 634 impacted organizations identified within the UAE. Among them, 30 are government institutions, 13 belong to the private sector, and the rest are classified under various other categories.
In response, the Cybersecurity Council has activated emergency cybersystems across the country in collaboration with relevant authorities. This coordinated effort aims to fortify the UAE Cybersecurity Systems digital infrastructure against hacking attempts and mitigate the risks posed by cyber threats. By deploying advanced security measures and strengthening defensive mechanisms, the council seeks to protect both public and private digital spaces from potential data breaches and cyber fraud.
Call for Vigilance and Strengthened Cybersecurity Measures
The Cybersecurity Council has urged all government and private organizations to bolster their cybersecurity defenses, improve their readiness against cyber threats, and promptly report any suspicious digital activity. Given the rapid advancements in hacking techniques and cyber fraud methods, the council emphasized the need for continued vigilance and the adoption of best security practices to prevent potential attacks.
