ZTE and MMU Launch National Upskilling Initiative
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 July 2025 – ZTE Corporation, a global leader in ICT solutions, in partnership with Multimedia University (MMU), has launched a five-month upskilling programme aimed at equipping Malaysian public sector leaders with cutting-edge skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. Titled “Shaping the Future-Fit Public Services with Cybersecurity in the AI Landscape”, the initiative targets 20 senior government officers representing 14 ministries. The programme is fully sponsored by Malaysia’s Public Service Department (JPA), reflecting the government’s strong commitment to digital transformation across public services.
This training aims to enhance participants’ competencies in emerging technologies essential to the evolution of modern governance. It aligns with Malaysia’s broader vision of developing a digitally adept public sector capable of delivering innovative, secure, and citizen-centric services.
Dual-Phase Structure Combines Local and Global Expertise
The programme is structured in two key phases. The first phase, already underway at Multimedia University in Malaysia, offers a month of intensive training focused on the fundamentals of AI, cybersecurity, and public sector digital innovation. Participants engage in a blend of lectures, hands-on labs, and simulations, designed to build a strong foundation in technologies such as Generative AI (GenAI) and AI-powered governance systems.
The second phase—slated to take place in China—will run for five months and feature an immersive industry attachment organized by ZTE with Multimedia University’sacademic support. During this phase, officers will gain practical exposure through field visits, case studies, and workshops conducted at top-tier technology hubs. Key learning areas include smart city infrastructure, digital governance models, and advanced cybersecurity frameworks. This experience is set to provide participants with global perspectives and skills transferable to Malaysia’s public administration.
Leaders Express Strong Support for Digital Public Sector Future
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of Multimedia University , emphasized the strategic value of the programme, stating, “This initiative aligns closely with the national agenda to future-proof our public sector workforce. The international exposure and real-world experience will empower officers to become digital transformation leaders within their ministries.”
Ge Yuqiao, Managing Director of ZTE Malaysia, echoed this sentiment, noting the importance of such partnerships in fostering innovation and talent. “Our collaboration with Multimedia University represents ZTE’s ongoing dedication to Malaysia’s tech development. We are confident this initiative will significantly strengthen the country’s digital governance capabilities.”
Representing the participant group, Mahmood bin Yahya expressed deep appreciation to JPA for enabling this opportunity. “We are honoured to be selected for such a transformative journey. The knowledge we gain will not only elevate our personal competencies but also serve Malaysia’s broader public service excellence.”
The programme, which commenced in May 2025, is scheduled to conclude in November 2025. It stands as a model of academia-industry collaboration driving national progress in AI and cybersecurity readiness.
