In a move to bolster cybersecurity for Malaysia’s rapidly expanding Malaysia’s 5G networks, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has entered into a collaboration with Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM). This partnership aims to develop comprehensive security guidelines and establish a robust testing center to safeguard the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure.
Collaborative Efforts to Secure Malaysia’s 5G Networks
On Monday, DNB and CSM officially signed a partnership agreement at DNB’s Malaysia’s 5G Portal experience center. This agreement marks a significant step towards enhancing the security framework for 5G networks in Malaysia. As part of the collaboration, both organizations will create 5G security guidelines that will serve as a foundational standard for the telecommunications industry. These guidelines will provide essential principles for future security implementations, ensuring a consistent and robust approach to safeguarding 5G networks.
Additionally, DNB and CSM are set to establish a National 5G Cybersecurity Testing Centre. This facility will play a crucial role in identifying vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with security standards, and validating security measures for 5G networks. By sharing threat intelligence and collaborating on security strategies, the two entities aim to strengthen the overall cybersecurity landscape in Malaysia.
Government Support and National Importance
The partnership between DNB and CSM has garnered significant support from the Malaysian government. Minister of Digital Malaysia, Gobind Singh Deo, emphasized the critical nature of Malaysia’s 5G Networks as a part of the country’s Critical National Information Infrastructure. During the signing ceremony, he highlighted the importance of cybersecurity as a collective responsibility that requires the pooling of resources, intelligence, and expertise.
“By strengthening alliances and partnerships, we can enhance our collective ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats,” said Minister Gobind Singh Deo. The government’s commitment to securing the 5G network underscores its vital role in national defense, economic stability, governmental functions, and social routines.
Nasution Mohamed, COO of DNB, echoed these sentiments, stating that a strong cybersecurity ecosystem is essential for the resilience of the 5G network. As various sectors accelerate their digitalization efforts through 5G, robust cybersecurity measures become increasingly critical to protect against potential threats.
Future Prospects and Industrial Impact
The Malaysian government is optimistic about the potential of Malaysia’s 5G to drive digital innovation and economic growth. The Digital Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have been actively discussing policies to encourage private 5G rollouts for industrial applications. Sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and aquaculture stand to benefit significantly from the enhanced capabilities of 5G technology.
Currently, DNB’s 5G network covers over 80% of populated areas in Malaysia. In line with its dual-network model, the government is also working on establishing a second 5G network to further expand coverage and capacity. This strategic approach aims to foster greater usage of 5G technology by enterprises, thereby driving digital innovation and strengthening the nation’s digital economy.
The collaboration between DNB and CSM represents a pivotal step towards securing Malaysia’s 5G infrastructure. By developing stringent security guidelines and establishing a dedicated testing center, the partnership aims to ensure that the nation’s telecommunications networks remain resilient and secure in the face of evolving cyber threats.
