Cohesity and Semperis Launch Identity Resilience Platform for Active Directory and Entra ID

Identity has become a critical frontline in cybersecurity. Compromise of Active Directory (AD) or cloud identity systems often grants attackers broad access to sensitive applications and data, leading to ransomware, data theft, or extended outages. Addressing this growing concern, Cohesity and Semperis have jointly launched Cohesity Identity Resilience, a platform built to safeguard and recover enterprise identity infrastructure across both on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.

Protecting Hybrid Identity Infrastructures

Despite the emphasis on cloud-first strategies, most organizations continue to rely on hybrid identity setups. On-premises Active Directory remains foundational, with Microsoft Entra ID extending those services into the cloud. However, when AD is compromised, synchronization with Entra ID breaks down, potentially cutting off access to Microsoft 365 and other SaaS platforms.

Eric Purcell, Senior Vice President of Global Channels & Alliances at Semperis, emphasized the risks: “Most enterprises use a hybrid AD/Entra ID identity system. If AD is unavailable, user synchronization and access to SaaS apps can be disrupted. Cohesity Identity Resilience ensures that by restoring AD, organizations also restore the source of authority for users, groups, and devices synchronized with Entra ID.”

The platform directly addresses this gap, ensuring consistent protection, streamlined recovery, and forensic insight across both AD and Entra ID environments. The inclusion of Cohesity Identity Resilience highlights how enterprises can modernize defenses without adding unnecessary complexity.

Integration Without Added Complexity

Enterprises and managed security service providers (MSSPs) often operate a large mix of security, compliance, and data protection tools. Introducing new platforms can create silos or operational challenges if not carefully integrated. Cohesity Identity Resilience has been designed to minimize that complexity.

The solution combines Semperis’ hybrid Active Directory disaster recovery and forensic investigation capabilities with the Cohesity Data Cloud. This integration offers multi-tiered identity system defense while aligning with existing enterprise tools.

Purcell explained the advantage: “The platform helps MSSPs and enterprise teams reduce downtime, mitigate risks, and achieve resilience by combining purpose-built hybrid AD disaster recovery and forensics with an industry-leading data protection platform like Cohesity Identity Resilience.”

With preventative features such as scanning for exposure indicators and rapid recovery mechanisms, the solution is engineered to keep enterprises operational even during identity-based disruptions.

Strengthening Recovery Across the Attack Lifecycle

Identity-focused cyberattacks are rarely isolated. If vulnerabilities are not fully remediated, organizations risk repeated exploitation. Simply restoring backups is often insufficient. Cohesity Identity Resilience goes further by incorporating forensic and incident response capabilities.

These functions remove attacker artifacts, verify the integrity of restored systems, and ensure the environment is safe before returning to production. This comprehensive approach reduces the risk of persistent infections and accelerates recovery timelines.

Purcell noted: “Without an Identity Resilience solution, organizations face extended downtime, repeated compromises, and complex manual recovery. Cohesity Identity Resilience secures Active Directory throughout the entire attack lifecycle.”

Identity as Critical Infrastructure

The launch of Cohesity Identity Resilience underscores a broader industry shift in how identity is regarded. No longer viewed merely as a gateway, identity is now treated as critical infrastructure. Just as enterprises implement resilience strategies for data, they must extend the same principles to authentication and access systems.

By protecting the “source of truth” for identity, Cohesity Identity Resilience enables organizations to minimize operational disruption, strengthen their defenses, and recover quickly from sophisticated identity-driven attacks.

With identity now a prime target for cyber adversaries, resilience strategies for Active Directory and Entra ID are becoming essential components of enterprise cybersecurity.
