Cybersecurity entrepreneur Nir Zuk has introduced a new startup called Cylake, which has secured $45 million in seed funding to build the Cylake cybersecurity platform, an advanced security platform for organizations that require full control over their digital systems and data. The funding round was led by Greylock and included several technology investors with experience in enterprise software and security.
Startup Builds Security Platform Without Public Cloud Dependence
Cylake is developing the Cylake cybersecurity platform, built on a data-focused architecture that integrates artificial intelligence into security operations. The system is designed to provide organizations with visibility across their entire digital infrastructure while maintaining direct control over their data environment.
Unlike many modern cybersecurity platforms that rely heavily on public cloud infrastructure, Cylake’s system is designed to operate within an organization’s own infrastructure or within a private cloud environment. This design allows institutions to deploy advanced security capabilities without transferring sensitive information to external cloud providers.
The company believes this approach, used by the Cylake cybersecurity platform, will address the needs of organizations that operate in environments where strict data control is essential. Many large enterprises and institutions maintain internal systems that cannot rely on public cloud infrastructure due to operational requirements and internal data protection policies.
Cylake’s architecture aims to unify multiple layers of cybersecurity operations into a single platform. By combining data visibility with automated security analysis, the system is intended to help organizations monitor activity across networks, applications, and infrastructure components through one integrated system.
Fragmentation within cybersecurity tools has long been considered a challenge for large organizations. Security teams often rely on multiple disconnected systems to detect threats, analyze activity, and manage protection tools. Cylake’s platform aims to address this challenge by bringing multiple security functions together within a single data environment.
Founders Bring Extensive Experience From the Security Industry
The company was founded by Nir Zuk, together with Wilson Xu and Ehud Shamir, three technology leaders with extensive experience in cybersecurity development.
Zuk founded Palo Alto Networks in 2005 and served as the company’s chief technology officer for more than two decades. During that time, the company grew into one of the major cybersecurity providers serving enterprises around the world.
Wilson Xu previously worked with Zuk at Palo Alto Networks and played a key role in building the company’s engineering organization. His experience includes leading engineering teams responsible for developing security infrastructure and software platforms used by large enterprises.
Ehud Shamir is also a well-known figure in the cybersecurity sector. He co-founded SentinelOne in 2013, a company recognized for its work in automated threat detection and response technology.
Cylake’s development strategy behind the Cylake cybersecurity platform is centered on two core ideas. The first focuses on creating a unified security architecture that gives organizations complete visibility across their infrastructure and data systems. The company believes that strong visibility across digital environments is essential for identifying threats and understanding security events.
The second idea centers on maintaining full data control. Many organizations prefer to operate security tools within systems that they fully manage rather than relying on shared infrastructure. Cylake aims to allow these institutions to use advanced artificial intelligence-driven security tools while maintaining direct ownership of their data systems.
The startup plans to work closely with a small group of early design partners as it continues developing the platform. These organizations will help test and refine the system during its development phase.
Cylake expects to make the Cylake cybersecurity platform available to customers in early 2027 as it continues building technology focused on integrated security visibility and controlled data environments.
